Faux Painting over real or faux brick is an easy solution if you don’t just love the look of red brick in your kitchen.
How do you faux paint over real brick? I have real brick in my kitchen and would like to change the color. Is there some kind of “faux” painting I can do on real brick?
Hello Debra,
I just purchased my first home! However, there is horrendous faux brick in the kitchen. We are not ready to redo the kitchen just yet but I can't stand looking at it! The "brick" is dark red with black "grout" and even if we were to chip the bricks off, the black grout is still there. We want to paint over it, possibly a warm butter cream color. Any suggestions on types of paint or techniques we should use? Thanks a million!!!![]()
A few different answers ran through my brain, but I want to keep this simple for everyone!
Faux Painting over Brick is a good temporary or permanent fix if you want to cover old, dark, damaged brick with faux brick painting. Freshen up the area with a light color on the bricks for a cottage feel. Bricks can be painted over by rolling/brushing on a solid color.
The brick should be cleaned well with
If a faux finish is what you desire... using a sea sponge will give you the best results. After the base coat color is dry, use the sea sponge to pounce on at least 3 different tones of the same color.
The base color, a shade lighter and a shade darker. This will give a soft, mottled effect without drawing too much attention to the brick. Make sure the sponge is soft enough so that while you are pouncing, the paint is actually going into the grout areas with the same pressure.
You don't want to leave the grout lines without the mottled coloration, or it will accentuate the grout lines.
