Faux Brick Archway Ideas

by THAT Painter Lady on Thursday, April 23, 2009

Hi Deb!

I purchased your video and now I’m ready to start bricking!

I want to do an archway to my kitchen and small faux subway tile back splash.

What is the best way to create a template for little bricks for the subway tiles (I’m a glutton for tiny brushes and details). And, the arch isn’t flush against the wall and has 45 degree angles instead of the usual 90, the sides of the arch are only 6″. How do I work with this?

Thank you so much for your videos, keep them coming!

Wow… You are up for a challenge! I love it… It’s only paint. Paint is your friend. Grin

Hmmm. so you need a smaller template than the instructions provide.

When you are working with a finite area… meaning the measurements
of the area don’t have much leeway (like a long wall has more wiggle
room for measurements) you have to play the draw – redraw game.

I do this… a lot!

faux-brick-arch-2Because you cant really measure an archway,
but you can visualize what will “not” look good.
We go with a few guesstimates.

Many archways are actually bricked with the “side” of the brick
width rather than full bricks.

faux-brick-arch-7It just makes it so much easier to get the curve right.
I did a quick sketch placing the bricks where I thought they would
look the best.

I suggested the brick template be adjusted to about 3″ high… but
this is an eyeball thing. This may be toooo short in “real life”.

I hope this is helpful… Debra
